The Great Fire of London took place in the year 1666, which reminds an awful lot about the demonic number 666. The Great Fire originated in the bakery of Thomas Farriner and it quickly spread to the west side centre of the city of London. It all started around midnight on Sunday the Second of September and in merely three days the magnificent city of London would mostly swiped away.
The most commonly used firefighting technique of the time was creating firebreaks by means of demolition but this was unfortunately delayed because the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Thomas Bloodworth, couldn't make up his mind, panicked and thus made the delayed, wrong decision. During the time wasted the wind already decided over the fate of London, it already fanned the bakery into such a firestorm that demolition was no longer an option. The fire continued north to the very core centre of the city of London. Chaos arises amongst the people in the street and order broke down. Rumours spread of suspicious foreigners setting fires.
A large group of immigrants became victims of violence and lynchings. The fire spread over most of London, destroying St. Paul's Cathedral and then it leaped the River Fleet to threaten the Charles II's court at Whitehall. In the meanwhile firefighting efforts were being mobilised. The battle to defeat the fire is considered by most to have been won by two factors: The Tower of London garrison created firebreaks to stop further spread eastwards by using gunpower and the eastwind which died down.
